This is OT, but there's too much $ to be made regulating things, so they regulate it and make it seem mysterious and dangerous to those not informed. Huge source of revenue for SOMEONE. Yes you can )*#)*#& up parts of your A/C system if you do something wrong. Guess what; you can do this with R134 or R12 too! Imagine that. Make sure the system has good oil (compatible), and if you don't know flush it out. I did mine with Mineral Spirits and a flush can; did the system twice after the previous "experts" converted the van to 134 without changing the oil, and the resulting sludge clogged everything! Idiots, and that's why they get the big bucks with their computer printouts! I use non-standard refrigerants (not Freeze 12, which I know little about), they cool better, and are less $, then the "normal" options they brainwash you into thinking you have to use. They use them in other countries, including Europe for crying out loud. And as mentioned before, they have fragerances added so you smell a leak (if there is one). If you blew up the van from accumulation and following explosion, it's because your sense of smell is killed because of your smoking habit, because it's very strong, and you can't miss it unless you are already in a coma. I'd be far more worried about 15gal of gasoline in the fuel tank, or the propane container then the meager 16-20oz in the A/C system. John Aircooled.Net Inc. |
