I have my "manual" switch wired so that the low speed comes on. It has proven to be adequate in triple digit weather as experienced on my recent trip from So Cal to Tennessee and back.

High Speed useage tends to make the circuit kinda hot. Fuse doesn't blow, but it ran hot enough to do a slight melting at the fusebox, necessitating replacement.

As to making it thru Manhattan with your family is purely up to the local populace in the neighborhood you plan to drive through. In South Central LA, all bets are off <grin>
