Jim, I had to replace the cable on my 91 GL automatic about 6 years ago, and had similar problems. I ended up taking the "lever" off of the auto transmission. This is the lever that the cable attaches to (I think it is the downshift lever) I'll check Bentley... Ah, it is called the kickdown lever (p 37.15). The stud that the lever attaches to on the tranny body sheared off as I was loosening the bolt :(... Never enough PB Blaster... anyway getting that lever off enabled me to soak the little ball and socket thing at the end of the accelerator cable in PB Blaster and eventually work them apart. Reassembly was easy except for the sheared stud...:) If you can get your lever off maybe you can get a used lever from a junkyard?? Dan Erlandson 91 GL 202,000 miles

I was changing my accelerator cable on my 86GL/ automatic when the little ball that the end of the cable pops on to snapped off the lever. Now i know why the cable was sticking.so badly. Any ideas as what I can do? This is a major p.i.t.a. A warning to others, lube this and make sure the rubber boot is intact over the end of the cable. More bread$$... for the box.
