I've had a '78 Chevy G20 since '91 and I'm on at least the fourth starter under a lifetime warranty. The symptoms of failure are always the same, so when it starts acting up I pull it and go get another one before it strands me somewhere. I can swap it out in under 10 minutes now, aside from the trip to the FLAPS. It's inconvenient, but no more so than a tire rotation or something. I don't even know anymore how long a good quality new starter should last. I mostly consider it their problem and not mine. Since they computerized their sales records in store I don't even have to bother keeping track of the receipt and I can get an exchange in any store of the same chain. What a deal, right? Right?
