The fire box gives off very little heat, the combustion air helps kep it cool. Most of the heat does go out the exhaust pipe but some of this has to transfer into the cooling system that is how it works. Total flame input is only ~ 400 btu/hour so there is not much to be gained.

The real problem comes from the fact that absorption refrigerators loose capacity quickly above 90F. In addition, you also have the increased heat load getting in especially each time the door is opened. The Vanagon has the extra problem where the cooling components are inside. Most all RVs actually have an outside flue compartment for the condenser and combustion sysem. This is a real problem when the van is closed up as the insdoe temps can easily get to 120F or more.

For the exhaust insulation, a good plumbiung supply can get you a fiberglass pipe wrap for steam systems that will do the job.
