Subject: That is WHY vanagon BURN!

http://www.benplace.com/gilles/gilles24.jpg

SO DO THAT: http://www.benplace.com/fuel_line.htm

This van was IN for a exhaust leak repair... it almost cought fire in the shop ... the injector # 3 hose made a nice stream of fuel going down on the exhaust in front of our eyes... nothing cought on fire but 2 inchs closer and that was it!!!

After some discussion with the owner (72 years old), a clear probleme as to removing-replacing of that 1 to 3 exhaust part with the engine in the van and on top a small coolant leak on the left head: http://www.benplace.com/gilles/gilles4.jpg

we decided it was time to remove the engine after 150k miles and check everything, he is the only owner, bought new in 88 for 31k$ CAD, the head were still in good condition inside, only a very small crack and not very deap, but they were a mess outside... he as decided to go with new head instead of rebuilding those... i agree! this had almost no maintenance on it since 1988 and was runing OK before we remove the engine... BUT, it was a "time bomb"....

Why this engine / van and not some other ugly one that i do... because it survive many Canadian winter... some hard running condition and poor maintenance... so Vanagon are not so shitty!!!!

It's not another "Titanic": http://www.benplace.com/vanagon_engine5.htm but pretty close.

here are a few shot of the engine condition.... http://www.benplace.com/gilles.htm

Cheers, Ben ps.: It's summer, i work like a dog, no much time to read you guys or to post... kind a miss the list a bit... but i got to make some $$$ to eat... and i still learn quite a lot on those vans... will share a few trick later..
