Ask on the Yahoo! diesel vanagon list, Karl Mullendore has done these as have others. They love them, who wouldn't? As much or more power than the waterboxer, better mileage. I'll bet finding the right gear combination (R&P) gear to make really good use of the power and top end is an issue. Anway, they fit. Karl can also provide you with a modified TD injector pump which allows you dispense with all the TDI electronica and still get the performance you want. The TDIs are all "ground up" diesels (I don't mean that the way it sounds). There is no comparison between the TDI and an old school diesel. Smooth, quiet, clean and powerful. And expensive.
