Installing new canvas in a van with the upper edge of the canvas secured with the aluminum strips (it's an '84 which some think should be stapled but only staples were to a few small wood blocks -- aluminum strips were in place as on later model years). I've scoured the archives... read about someone who did it along the side of the road in a couple of afternoons... read about a 70 year-old who did it in 90 minutes (or was that a 90 year-old who did it in 70 minutes?). Canvas is the 3-window version offered by the Bus Depot. Have removed old stuff and have one question/concern regarding the securing of the top edge of the canvas to the pop-top: My old canvas had a welt around the top edge which engaged the big groove in the aluminum pieces. I can see that such a welt would both help locate the edge and help it hold on in the space between the screws. The replacement canvas has no welt... just a hem. Here is a picture (top pic is old, bottom pic is replacement): http://www.cybertrails.com/~ahwahnee/Top%20Edges.JPG Am I okay installing w/o a welt? Anything I need to do differently from original install? I'm tempted to use more & longer wooden blocks than in place originally (possibly glued in place) to locate the edges with a staple gun prior to install of the aluminum strips. Overkill or an okay idea? Thanks for any help! Geo Hahn
