Subject: Re: in need of new chrome bumpers

An option for preserving single plated chrome items for the vanagon is to spray or brush them with POR15 Glisten.( www.por15.com ) It is a clear coat that is clear as water. It is so tough that sand paper has a difficult time scratching it. This is what the ads say. Regular POR15 will not sand either .I have tried that. I havent used Glisten, but I have ordered a pint. They say it can be brushed on with no brush marks.I spray mine and get quick application. It is designed for use on chrome wheels, marine brass, and other areas where normal finishes will not hold up.

I bought Vanagon hubcaps that were chrome for about $8 each. All the vendors carry them. I put them on my parts van so it wouldnt look so bad. With 0 miles and 6 months, a layer or rust had gripped the entire cap. I can see the same or worse happening to the single plated chrome bumpers that are avaliable. A triple plated hub cap like mine is $50. After a year and a half those hub caps ,still with 0 miles, were all rust.

Are triple chromed bumpers even avaliable?
