Had a conversion done to r134 to my suburuvanagon - they put in a compressor from a junkyard, cause hoses didn't fit --- it was a compressor from japan for the japanese market... it worked, for a couple of weeks... took it to a reputed to be good place in costa mesa: D&S ... they said: low on r134... compressor not working at all... internal valves must have broke, contamination of system... wonderful... also they (D&S) still deal with r12.. said it would have been better to stay with r12 for a vanagon, esp for arizona and florida type weather... and that to do r134 conversion properly a couple of things have to be done and not neglected... bottom line, whether going back to r12 or staying r134... 1,500 to 3,000 to do it properly... I'm livid with the place that did my first 'conversion'... first, over the phone, they acted like they did it... then they sent it somewhere else... the guy today (D&S) said the welding job of attaching the hoses, wasn't done very well... and that I could have used the other compressor... just needed some fittings made was all... and that first shop made me wait and wait... the time spent is far worse than the money... but the whole situation just really sucks... can't even contemplate going to Nevada or Arizona... much less Florida... trust is a four letter word...
