They are mounted very low, and not on the pillar at all. The seat belt reel mounts to a bracket affixed to one end of the bar that bolts to the back of the seat pedestal. The receiving end of the belt pair mounts to the same one the front seat belt does, on the down low in the walkway between the seats. It mounts on a stiff, rubber- covered but somewhat flexible cable that always keeps the receiving end up in the air, but is not so stiff that it would hurt anyone or anything bumping into it.
