Hi to all,
Some of the ol' timers on the list may remember me,
Yup, Matthew Bulley...
pretty active on this list from 1997-2002 or
thereabouts. I've had a scad of
VW's, but today, I am contemplating SELLING my 1982
Westfalia, so I hopped
back on the list to think through pricing/value. And
make a decision on
whether to sell.
I am the second owner of a garage kept (90% of its
life) White Westfalia. It
is clean, well kept, and has 139k original miles,
about 20k on a rebuilt
motor. I am a former VW mechanic, and the motor has a
counter-balanced
crank, 96mm pistons, over-sized oil pump, and was
fully balanced (including
flywheel, clutch, and cooling fan). It runs great.
All the camping gear works correctly, cold fridge,
clean upholstery, has the
Westfalia "potty box" (sits behind the passenger seat
to conceal extra gear,
or a porta-potty). I have a 2-person middle seat and
the floor tracks for
it, but haven't installed those.
Though the van handles well, I have 4 new gas-charged
shocks, and the A-arm
bushings in hand for replacement, as well as the
rubber seal for around the
front (roof) luggage well.
The paint is in near-showroom condition, shiny and
clean with only minor
wear/tear. No rust anywhere. There is a minor dent in
the sliding door 12 cm
long, 3-5 cm high, and about 1.5 cm deep at it's
deepest, with associated
paint scrap, all below the lowest curve of the door.
It is currently in Catonsville, MD near Baltimore, and
I drive it only a few
miles on "sunny days" to keep the oil running through
it.
Any thoughts on price, or desirability of same?
Thanks for your replies,
Matthew

At first glance that price seemed high. Investigation
at that web
site shows that it is a Westy. Orange 83 with a white
top, and
automatic.
