<snip> Just so far have not gotten my fridge lit on propane <snip>

When I first got my '85 Westy the fridge hadn't been used for years. I removed the little drain cap, inside under the fridge, and found it plugged solid with rust. I opened it up with a straightened coat hanger and blew through it to clean it out. I then removed the flue cover assembly from the outside of the van, exposing the exhaust and intake openings, and used a shop vac on each one repeatedly. I could hear a rattling in the vacuum hose until the rust and junk was evacuated from the burn chamber. After that, the fridge lit right up and has worked well since (4 years).

I use a group 41 starting battery as an aux battery which powers the inside lights, stereo, cigar lighter, emergency flasher and stop lights, and currently the fridge but I never use the fridge on 12 volts when camped.

Right now the aux battery is connected through the original fridge relay but my plan is to install a better setup such as the Intellitec battery disconnect relay such as can be seen at http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-converters/002733.htm , or a Surepower 1315 such as can be seen at http://www.brwholesale.com/products.php?ua=pd&id=1144 .
