Definitely not. Not only metric, but some Asian threads are between Metric
standard and fine.

I'm in the midst of replacing the radiator on my Dodge
Colt/Mitsubishi Mirage. Bought a new rad locally and
removed my old one. As I was swapping the fan and
temp. sensor over to the new radiator, I noticed the
threads in the new rad are much too large for my old
sensor. The parts place says "Oh, yeah, you need to go
to the hardware store and cobble together a
pipe-fitting adaptor ..." So much for the promises of
a "direct fit". The bozos couldn't even sell me a new
temp sensor with the proper threads.

After an hour in my local Tru-Valu, I found a brass
adaptor that barely fit; even when tightened all the
way down, the sensor wobbles in the fitting, and the
fitting never really seals into the radiator, even
with liberal layers of Teflon tape.

Are these sensor/radiator fittings on a Japanese car
REALLY American pipe thread, as two different auto
parts stores have told me? And if so, where does one
find a suitable adaptor? Or should I just return the
damned thing and buy one elsewhere?
