On the expansion tanks, it seems there are two different versions of them - one has a plastic fuel line molded onto the tank itself, and simply required a piece of fuel line to connect to it. The other, (less common?) version of the expansion tanks has the grommet, and the metal fuel line runs directly into it. This it the type I have on my '80 Westy, and believe me, the grommets do fail. I had little luck finding those grommets on line, but my mechanic was able to order them for me. I have not yet gone to pick them up, so I can't speak to how easy they would be to install, but I can definitely say those grommets leak after time. The vanagain directions, BTW, may be referring to the grommets on the fuel tank itself? Especially since I doubt you would remove the expansion tanks during a fuel tank repair.

As for your other questions - sorry - you have reached the limits of my fuel tank knowledge so far (and my air cooled van doesn't have "coolant lines" anyway - just the air line from the heater boxes).

Good luck. David.
