Roger,

just measured my pop top truss head screw: head diameter 16 mm.

the fastenal truss head with 14mm head diameter would not be too bad a choice, better than rusty :)

A thin ss washer would not look terrible, IMO, if you did want to increase contact area.

Turns out that the screw I recieved in the mail for copying purposes is far too nice a screw to use. it may get lost, and the owner needs it back.It is irreplaceable. I am sending it back. I want a rusty screw that I can keep. I need to send a manufacturer a copy of the screw I need, and it may get lost in all the shuffel. So I really need several rusty screws that I can keep and wont be missed.

I have made about 50 or 60 phone calls. The 17mm truss head oem screw is not avaliable anywhere. Period. Go Westy has a replacement pop top screw. It is a common , off the shelf truss head screw . M6 with a 1.0 thread pitch and a 14mm head. Standard issue for this size of screw.I need a 17mm truss head and it is a oversized, oversize head and is,custom. VW has a repacement screw thatGoWesty sells. It has a VW part number ,but is the standard truss head of 14mm. Nothin special at all,and they crack the fibergalss. . I need to get some made. Manufactures want orders of 100,00 to 250,00 to manufacture. If I find a manufacutere to do this ,price of each screw will be high. I will have many thousand unsold screws,so this must be aborbed in whatI can sell. I am still making calls ,but I have little hope of getting a cheap screw. cannot give a esitmate,as I have no estimate, myself.I see itthis way. 12 stainless steel screws that are currently an eyesore, and take up lots of prime realestate on the vanagon exterior. A major draw back to a nice looking van. YOu can add a washer under the 12 screws, but thjat will look terriable. To get the correct issue, it will cost some, but not out of line as to the immprovement it will make.
