Fuse Blocks on VWs are always read from left to right when looking at the fuses. Thus #1 starts at the left, closest to the front door.

Fuse 1 - 8 amp -Taillight Left, Frt Parking Light, Left, Rear Sidemarker Light Left Fuse 2 - 8 Amp - Taillight Right, Frt Parking Light Right, Rear Sidemarker Light Right, License Lights Fuse 3 - 8 Amp - Low Beam Left Fuse 4 - 8 Amp - Low Beam Right Fuse 5 - 8 Amp - High Beam Left & Dash Indicator Light Fuse 6 - 8 Amp - High Beam Right Fuse 7 - 16 Amp - Radiator Fan Fuse 8 - 8 Amp - Interior Lights, Cig Lighter, Stop Lights Fuse 9 - 16 Amp - Hazard Lights, Radio Fuse 10 - 16 Amp - Wiper/Washer, Heat/Ventilation Fan Blower Fuse 11 - 8 Amp - Turn Signals Fuse 12 - Horn, Backup (Reverse) Lights

Additional Fuses (if equipped) - In separate fuseholders located at the right side of the main fuse block (from left to right): Fuse 1 - 8 Amp - Rear Window Defroster Fuse 2 - 8 Amp - Rear Window Wiper/Washer Fuse 3 - 16 Amp - Auxilary (Eberspacher) Heater Fuse 4 - 8 Amp - Overheating Switch for Aux Heater

The Air Conditioning Fuse Holders are located just to the left of the Steering Column (there are two) that have a 20 and a 25 amp fuse (Manual doesn't say which are which (I removed mine a long time ago because the AC was worthless and not worth the effort to repair).

8 amp fuses are white, 16 amp fuses are red. If using the original ceramic fuses, use ones that are brass not aluminum. Aluminum tends to corrode, even under the best condition. -- Jim Thompson 84 Westfalia 2.1 "Ole Putt" 73 K Ghia Coupe "Denise" 72 411 Station Wagon "Pug" oldvolkshome@gmail.com http://www.oldvolkshome.com ********************************** On 8/7/06, Tabe Johnson <greentabe-vanagon@yahoo.com> wrote: > > I'm embarassed to be asking such an obvious question, > but here goes: > > I'm working on a 1984 Vanagon.
