Sam, thanks for jumping in there. That's one reason. The other is to make the kit simple to install for the non electricians who order the kit ! If you know your way around electrons then you probably won't be ordering my kit anyways as you know what to do. The loss of a few volts is insignificant. I get 11.5 volts at the head light socket using my kit and wiring plan. You may be able to boost that a bit by taking the power directly from the battery with a # 12 gauge wire and grounding the headlights to the body as close to the headlight sockets as possible as Denis suggests.
