I can't say what the different colors mean, but why not use what's recommended for your subaru engine? It would seem that the rest of the system would not care. Also, does your engine year also ask for the "genuine subaru coolant conditioner" AKA bars leak type sealer? That might be a consideration as there were issues with internal headgasket leaks on some subarus which were "cured" with the conditioner. Aaron '85 Vanagon with '02 subaru 2.5L
