Two important pieces of advice you'll receive more than once when this subject comes up: Use the right filter. You can get these from the dealership, a good VW supply house or one of the list vendors. Don't use a filter from an auto parts store. But more importantly, use Castrol 15W50. Others will no doubt chime in with alternatives that work as well, but the point is to NOT use the wrong oil in a vanagon.

Then check the pressure...
