Hi Malcolm, I noticed that many folk hang shower curtains off the rear hatch door. I can't speak to Doug's reason to not do it, but we also prefer a standalone shower room. 1. Using the portable Zodi heater, and not the stovetop one, I can pitch it in the sun or shade, depending on the weather and not where the van happens to be situated for camping. 2. I can find a more secluded spot away from where the van has to be parked. 3. Many of the places we camp require the vehicle to be parked on an asphalt pad (NFS campgrounds in SoCal and nearby places) and when the wind blows we'd want to stake down or otherwise secure the lower edges of the tarps. Asphalt makes a miserable surface to stake things to. Mrs Squirrel likes her privacy when she showers, figures that if you want a peep show then get your own darn wife. 4. I don't know how people manage with three sides to the stall -- water splashed into the open rear of the van would wet the mattress we sleep on and the bedding. Maybe other folk are neater shower-ers than we are. On the other hand, hanging a few nylon tarps with bulldog clips looks to be the quick and easy way, compared with setting up and taking down a stall. As long as it's not windy.
