Greetings fellow Vanagonauts,

Thanks for all the help I received, especially David and John, who p-mailed me. GoWesty's link proved most helpful - - they even had a picture of the contrary part! Went ahead and ordered one, and took Hector out for a drive in the meantime. Am happy to report that I got the cooland temp up high enough to kick the fan on, and the silicone tape seems to be holding. Plans are to go ahead and do the campout next weekend even if the part doesn't get here before I leave. Involves a 7000 ft. pass, then an 8000 ft. pass, then on to Mammoth, CA, at around 8700 ft, I think. So the silicone tape will be getting a good workout. Still taking extra coolant water (I put much stock in Unca Robert Service-Joel's poem, "The Rules").

Anyway, thanks again, and will let everyone know how the temporary fix works out.

Gary
