I've a clear plastic filter between the tanks and the square filter. FRAM G2. about $3CDN. I change it whenever I see any crud in it, and check it every oil change. Haven't had any vaporisation issues with the fuel. I'm running an I4 conversion with CIS, so it is a high pressure system, but things may be different on the flat four motor.

Oh and I kept the square filter as well because it has a one way valve in it......
