The Weber DFAV/DFEV is a progressive carb: one circuit for idle, one for mid-range, one for full throttle. I have been able to achieve a rock solid idle, smooth transition to mid-range and then on to full throttle, with the plugs looking a nice tan colour. That's MY experience over 7 years from the cold of Canada, to the heat of the Egyptian desert; from sea level to the rockies. I have experienced carb icing (damp conditions at 2 Degrees C), but that was before I had the coolant plumbed into the proper air intake manifold. No problems since then.

I'm not denying your experience, but I have not had your problems with my van. M
