Subject: coil wire on AC vanagon?

Hello,

According to the Bentley, California and Federal version air cooled Vanagons take different coil wires. The maximum resistance across the wire is 12,000 and 2,400 ohms for the California and Federal models, respectively. I purchased a set of Bosch plug and coil wires from Bus Depot about a year ago for my Federal Vanagon (1982) and it turns out that the coil wire is at 11,500 ohms. I just got off the phone with BD and they do not carry separate coil wires for California and Federal models. Additionally, my dealer claims that the coil wire does NOT differ between these models.

So whats up? Somebody must be wrong; Bus Depot and the Dealer or the Bentley.

Alternatively, maybe a new Bosch wire from BD run below 2400 ohms meeting the criteria for both California and Federal versions and my wire is simply defective (used for about 1 year)?

Could somebody out there with an air cooled Vanagon check to see what the resistance is across the coil wire?

Ron, any additional insight on this?

Thanks, Jake NW Indiana
