The plastic filter can not be used after the pump. It will not hold the
pressure.

On a similar note, my 86 has the large round filter.  When I replaced the
fuel lines this spring, I planned to replace the filter, but the vendor
shipped me a small square filter.  I didn't replace it at that time since I
was unsure if they were interchangeable.  Can I use the square one or should
I get the round one?

  Also, my van has been hard starting when warm.  It cranks and cranks but
will not fire.  As soon as I turn off the key and try again it always
starts.  It also always starts cold or after it has sat for 1/2 hour or
longer.  The fuel filter is of unknown age and it seems that the pump is
getting a bit noisy.  Is there any other things to look at or should I give
it a big dose of "live with it".
