Well, I've only got a '94 honda civic to compare my '90 vanagon to right now, and to me it seems to need a LOT more maintenance. Mileage on both is about the same-- right around 175K miles. The Honda has needed only a new radiator and a cv boot replaced, while the Vanagon has needed a whole new engine, radiator, rear brake cylinders, etc. I guess they really don't require MORE maintenance per se, just more DILIGENT maintenance. The PO of my honda was no worse than the PO of my Vanagon, but the vanagon didn't seem to take the abuse as well... -- John Bange '90 Vanagon - "Geldsauger" |
