RE: I've been using a piece of 3/4" ID PVC for several years, works great. There is nothing wrong with my struts but I have this setup to allow putting a fully loaded solar shower on top of the open hatch. Word of Caution: When installing prop the hatch open with a broom handle or such BEFORE detaching one end of the strut to put on the PVC. Don't ask why I emphasise this......
