Subject: Cold stalling...exhaust smells like fuel
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

Hi all,

I've been have some stalling problems with my 89 Westy lately. For the first 2-3 minutes of driving when I come to a stop, the engine stalls or nearly stalls. If I keep my foot slightly on the accelerator at idle I can easily keep it running. The engine doesn't have to get to normal operating temperature to idle smoothly, I only have to drive a few blocks and then everything is ok.

Also, I have noticed that the exhast has a raw fuel smell during the first 2-3 minutes after startup. This goes away once the engine warms up.

The 3rd thing that I have noticed is that the engine temperature (according to the gauge) does not get as high as it used to. For the last 4 years, at normal operating temperature, the temp gauge needle has been just touching the top of the LED. Lately I have noticed that the needle never goes past the bottom side of the LED.

Here's a list of everything that hs been replaced in the last 12 months: CAT Distributer Unit, Cap, Rotor, Wires Coil Temp2 Sender AFM

I don't know if the 3 symptoms above are related. If anyone could suggest a diagnoses I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks Eric
