Kathrine, I have mine on the front RH corner of the  luggage rack.  Used
double sided automotive trim tape to hold it  there.  Has been there for some 4 ~
5 years now and works perfectly.   If you search the archives you will find
quite a few reports on this  subject.  Some have opted to put it on the metal
roof under the luggage  rack.  This is fine until you load the luggage rack and
then effectively  block the signal to the antenna !
