I'm Sorry this is cross topic, I cannot seem to start a new topic...and I am a nubie... please excuse. The 1985 Vanagon GL that we were trying to figure out, in Quinlan, Texas..? I pulled the engine, and have been installing my new engine I got from a member of the subaruvanagon list. What I have found so far, is the gas lines on my old engine were reversed. When I got to see Craig's engine out of a 1985 Westie I realized the fuel lines, were reversed to mine. So I don't know how that would have affected it running, or not running.. but so far, that is one thing that glared out at me right off. If I can explain what I mean, and to myself as well... the fuel line from the fuel pump, went to the T that fed each fuel rail. The return line, I think, hooked to the back of the fuel pressure regulator. My old engine was hooked , the fuel pump line went to the back of the fuel pressure regulator. The T was hooked to the return line. Course I still have the problem of the over tightened crankshaft pulley bolt, and lack of an oil seal behind it. This winter I will tear the old one down again, put in a NEW gasket set, and put it up for a spare. I have already put in new rings. I believe more and more it's a case of Redneck Revenge, if I cain't fix it, nobody else will either...so there..!! Thanks Guys, for all your help, I just wish operating in this list mechanics computer wise made sense to a nubie as well...! Lyle Lathem 1985 Vanagon GL it's a gonna run..and soon....!!! |
