Subject: CV questions (searched archives...some ;) possible air cooled mod
              too!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

Hi all.

Being so distracted with thoughts and work making hot air ducts for heat exchangers, (long story, but can supply idea/pics if air cooled owners are curious. I have this theory..... ;^) I failed to thouroughly read Bently etc. thus didn't mark the position of parts on CV's I removed.

This is not urgent, as I am installing new CV's but would like to get the old CV parts assembled and off the bench for future use as spares.

Bently manual states on P. 42.9 that "chamfer on inside diameter of ball hub (splines) must point to contact shoulder on axle shaft and to larger diaemter of outer ring"

Does this mean that the chamfered end of ball hub and larger diameter of ring point outward toward groove for circlip when installed correctly? What measurement am I looking for in outer ring that would indicate this "larger diameter"? It seems to me that the chamfered end of ball hub would point inward to facilitate ease of getting it started on drive shaft splines when installing.

And yes have compared old CV to new CV (though these look rebuilt!) but still can't see what I should be looking for.

Please and thanks, and sorry for the lengthy blah blah,

Neil Nicholson. 1981 air cooled Westfalia. Cheap-o web site:
