I look at this in a couple ways...

Value to others- which doesn't matter a hill of beans to me because I am not interested in getting rid of it- and,

Value to me- which DOES matter because it is what I use to tote my family and things around in...

The Value to ME for my 1985 Vanagon GL (plain vanilla) is prolly well over 5K. This has much to do with the fact that I cannot replace it with anything similar for any less than that...

Speaking in terms of condition, useability, reliability (don't laugh) and mileage (again don't laugh)...

What other vehicle around affords the ability to drive 9 passengers, a load of useful stuff, be ready for a toad with no drivetrain mods, and still get over 20 mpg on the highway!?!?!

And don't tell me a toyota pickemup....
