Well... I can't report the difference between old & new, since the new one which arrived today from CIP1.ca is the wrong &(%&## part! They sent me a Jetta rad! :-( So I will be cleaning my old one and stuffing it back in for the weekend. It is quite heavy though, but appears clean inside. Most of the crud appeared to be on the outside, sludge which ran out when I sprayed it down. Probably from all the dirt roads over the years I guess.
