Subject: Labrador Trip photos...
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" ; format="flowed"

Hi everyone, Dot and I have spent the last month or so traveling in "Betty," our first ever Syncro Westfalia. Betty is an '86 model with under 100k miles that we bought from the original owners back in June. (and yes, I installed the round headlights.)

Trip photos are here: http://www.pauldottrip.com/2006_atlantic_canada/

We decided to visit Newfoundland again this year but took the more challenging route through Labrador in order to get there. (The easy way to Newfoundland is a 6-14 hour ferry trip from Nova Scotia).

While the Syncro was nice to have, pretty much everywhere we went was driveable in a 2WD Vanagon. In fact, we saw a couple 2WD Vanagons on the Labrador highway along with all kinds of regular vehicles.

Route: from New England take I95 into New Brunswick, drive north to Campbelltown NB, then Matane, Quebec. From Matane take the ferry across the St. Lawrence to Baie Comeau, QC. Take route 389 north.

Drive 1100km or so to Happy Valley/Goose Bay (center of Labrador), then take another ferry to Cartwright on the east coast of Labrador. From Cartwright drive south to Blanc Sablon (on the Labrador/Quebec coastal border) then a short ferry to St. Barbe near the northern tip of Western Newfoundland.

--

Hope you enjoy our photos!

Camp on, Paul & Dot
