There are places for paper map and GPS. Most GPS (and navigation units) have too small a screen to get a real good overview of an area, in my experience. Paper maps work well for this.

But there is nothing more satisfying to pull up a topo map on my laptop and have my GPS say >YOU ARE HERE< Helps me understand where I am after traversing all those twisty forest ATV trails.....
