left el paso the 25th, now the 28th. im in madison ga, a few hours from my destination. started trip at 65-70 mph, but as altitudes and temps dropped, and humidity went up, speeds now average 75-80mph. oil consumption has been maybe 3-4 qts. using 20w50. fuel consumption seems to be on the high side, but with a leaky gas tank, hihg speeds, and being heavily laden (im guessing 800 lbs, thats including me, the dog, full water tank and full ice box) i guess its not surprising. oh, to have my wifes power to weight ratio, though- shes in a 2000 new beetle turbo with maybe 400 lbs of stuff (including weight of wife and kid)- she passes a lot more gas stations than i do! thanx to the AIRS list- i havent needed to call on any of you, but it is a nice piece of mind

nick 83 westy

ps i did have i tire lose all its tread about 170 miles outside of el paso...that was a little scary
