VW Dealers do not all use the same markup protocols. Some choose to work on a thinner gross profit margin than others, some choose to work on fatter ones.

According to the Price Book issued by VOA, the cost of these headlight units to the dealer from the depot are $93.65 each (unless of course, they're given a better deal because of volume, but that doesn't happen very often). Each item has a markup code which indicates the markup from their cost to suggested retail price shown in the book. Knowing what the codes are what helps in determining if the dealer is "ripping you" or being "nice guys". Remember, the Price Book is the suggested price. The dealer can charge whatever they feel like in their own book (or what's formulated in their pricing matrix on their computer screen)

$133 = 30% GP Markup *Note - that's usually what most dealers charge wholesale to independent shops.

$156.08 = 40% GP Markup *Note - that's what the current book shows right now as suggested retail.

The more detailed Price Book (there are two), shows the "Warranty Rate" Price, which is usually the price between dealers trading back and forth and usually markup from cost about 25% GP (in the case of these headlight units, that would be $124.87 each). -- Jim Thompson 84 Westfalia 2.1 "Ole Putt" 73 K Ghia Coupe "Denise" 72 411 Station Wagon "Pug" oldvolkshome@gmail.com http://www.oldvolkshome.com ********************************** On 8/29/06, JordanVw@aol.com <JordanVw@aol.com> wrote: > > In a message dated 8/29/06 3:34:21 PM Eastern Daylight Time, > daniel.bates@COMCAST.NET writes: > > > > > VW Part Nos. > > > 255-941-105 > > > 255-941-106 > > > Euro-spec Headlights - > > > > > > I just checked with Camelback VW/Suburu in Phoenix (800-876-5199) and > > > these are available at $156.08/ea > > my local vw stealer lists them at $133.00 ea
