Hi Folks, I am in the process of converting my 88 Canadian Doublecab to automatic transmission. My buddy and I harvested the engine and trans out of an 89 Vanagon GL along with the shifter, shift console, shiftrod, halfhafts (since length is different from manual halfshafts), and coolant hoses (with extra hose branches for trans cooler). I did not have time to get the wiring harness out. Anyway, as far as I can see, there are only 4 wires in the harness. One pair was for the shift console lights. The two thick wires are obviously for the neutral safety switch. Here's what I am hoping to get help from. Where does that wire go after it enters the main harness? Am I better off just running the wires rather than getting some from an old harness? I don't the tranny handy so I can't check what electrical connections are needed there. Are there connectors there other than maybe the back-up light? I am guessing the safety switch is at the shift console only. If so, the where do the wires go after the main harness? Starter relay? Help!
For the naysayers, I am installing the auto because I want the slushbox for daily driving in the heavy traffic in San Francisco. I have plenty of other Vanagons with manual trans.=) -- BenT |
