NO, NO, NO, too much trouble and then it looks as if there is something hiding in there. What you want is an unobvious stock finish. Remove the carpet where your going to make the cut, cut out the metal, glue the piece of metal to the carpet and the carpet now becomes the hinge and the upper edge of the carpet, due to its configuration, will keep the new door closed and no one will be able to tell what you did. Also, line the metal floor with some non skid rubbery material to keep your laptop or whatever from sliding around or out.
