Subject: electrical insulation
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Hi folks,

This isn't actually a Vanagon question, but I thought someone might know. I'm looking for a way to reinforce the insulation on a computer cable, in a spot where electrical tape wouldn't do it. It's the cable that comes out of the AC adaptor and runs to my laptop. It doesn't unplug from the adaptor, and what with packing up the adaptor regularly to transport it, the cable bends right near where it attaches to the adaptor, and is starting to crack.

Is there any kind of goop or spray or other liquid-dryable insulation that I can put on it, that will bend easily and not eventually crack and allow the adaptor to short out? (I have already had two adaptors short out due to problems with those cables - always when I'm overseas and it's really hard and slow to replace them!) It's not feasible to just avoid ever bending the cable in that spot, though I had thought of trying to "splint" the cable with that in mind. Some kind of insulating stuff would be much better, though.

Any suggestions would be most welcome!

Joy
