While many people have used this relay set up to seemingly take care of hat start or other intermittent issues, I have seen a number of problems with this type of relay. To begin with, it shouldn't be needed, Fix what is wrong. 2, while the relay is rated for 30 or 40 amps, it is not designed for an inductive load. The failure will be the contact welding closed keeping the starter engaged until the starter burns out or the battery dies, or the battery cable melts. Yes, I've seen all three. Further, the relay is not weather protected.

A proper relay for this task should be a double break contact type, such as a Ford style solenoid. Mount it up into the engine compartment so there is some protection from direct spray.

My new starter was giving me troubles, I read up on the hard start relay topics and went down to Napa to get one. Easy to put in, I followed the diagram at Jim's page http://www.oldvolkshome.com/hardstart.pdf

The napa relay p/n 192D had the same numbering system as the diagram. Cost me less than $10. It works.
