The Behr AC in-dash AC is what early Vanagons used. There is plenty of discussion of this in the archives so let's not clutter the list with too much detail now. Yes, they can be retrofitted to later models. I am doing one now. It's more usefull than the rear AC IMHO because the cooling air is upfront where you need it most. Downside is you loose 80% of your glove box space and have to move ther radio to a vertical box on the floor in front of the shifter.
