Subject: Maiden voyage in the new-to-us '87 Westy
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

We had been planning this trip anyway but managed to buy the Westy in the meantime, so for its third trip out of the driveway we drove it from Richmond up to the C&O Canal in western Maryland for the holiday weekend.

It is a more experienced camper than we are, but we had fun and our camping skills will improve with practice. The dog loves it.

Karen made screens for the front doors and the slider, and I prepped the van with a new skylight kit, spare belts, hatch lock extension and a folding stool from GoWesty. Everything worked fine and I was surprised at the 2.1 on the road; I even passed a few folks once I got the rhythm down. There were a couple of backroad 2nd gear climbs that tempered my enthusiasm.

Coming up is a weeklong vacation that was also already in the works and the Westy is going on that one, too. We can't wait!

Stephen and Karen
