My wife plays string bass in our bluegrass band and is a great singer and songwriter. I also play bass, but guitar is my main instrument with mandolin third. I haven't played mandolin on stage at all; I'm not good enough, and I can't play it and sing at the same time! My younger boy plays guitar in a local rock band called 'Coffee and Cigarettes' who are really good and starting to get noticed, electric bass in a jazz fusion band and drums in a straight ahead jazz quartet. Obviously, its good to have more than one Vanagon! We can put a four piece bluegrass band with guitar, banjo, mandolin and stringbass in either one and still arrive at the gig relaxed. Well, maybe not the driver if the gig is uphill all the way, like Whistler. My wife drives a Golf and her bass fits in just fine.
