Kim, The CO at .53% tells me the mixture is right on the money but the catalyst is shot. No reduction of either CO or HC. The HC being a bit high should be expected for a 200K mile + engine. A combination of blow-by or tired valves or unbalanced injectors is working against you. You are close so some adjustments may help. Try new plugs, cap and rotor, and maybe retard the timing a little. This will give more air for a given unloaded engine speed that might clean it up enough to pass. Dennis

IDLE 2500 HC 53 241 (limit 125) CO% 0.18 0.53 (limit 1.0) So, HC is too high at speed. Engine runs fine (with lots of power.) I had to replace the muffler (which was rotted and rusty and falling to pieces. I pulled the old muffler and cat off the engine that used to be in my Tristar (which had passed emissions without problems.) What is the thought here? Tune up? Change the air filter? The HC at idle seems high to me (though it is within limits). Note, I'm trying to do the minimum as this engine will be pulled in the near future and replaced with a subaru....but I have to get it through emissions NOW so that I can get the registration taken care of. |
