It was definitely from the engine.....and at about 3,000 rpm. I figured it hadn't happened again because I haven't faced another climb like that one.
If it is from failing bearings, any idea of maximum remaining mileage I'll get before coming through the case?

the oil thins out when the engine is at operating temperature.  Loose
rods are most noticeable while the engine slows down after you rev it.
 You would also expect some indication from oil pressure warning lights.
 Maybe you could hook up an actual gauge.
