It'll never happen. VW never made a tank without the inverted hump. The reason for VW to continue with the current design is to consolidate parts and manufacturing and is and was to keep manufacturing & inventory costs down, relatively speaking. I run a brand new tank in my 84 Westy with no problems to speak of.

That inverted hump is not really a design flaw. It's there for the hot air tubing for the air cooled models. VW kept it that way because of what is indicated in the first paragraph.

At VWG/Airhead, we briefly (VERY BRIEFLY) looked into reproing various gas tanks and for the Vanagon variety with or without the hump, the tooling was around $100K, with a minimum first order of 1000 tanks at about $380 per. Anyone got half a mill they wanna burn? ;-) -- Jim Thompson 84 Westfalia 2.1 "Ole Putt" 73 K Ghia Coupe "Denise" 72 411 Station Wagon "Pug" oldvolkshome@gmail.com http://www.oldvolkshome.com ********************************** On 9/11/06, Cedar House Inn & Yurts <mtnhomeinn@windstream.net> wrote: > > I have a problem with my 1984 westy and the cascading gas tank.
