Brake pads is an interesting topic.

The marketing from the companies may make it seem like a more expensive pad is "better", when they don't define what "better" is.

A pad that is "better" for race cars, will be much, much worse, for a daily driver. Simply put, the materials and usage are different. Pads that are designed for occassional use (i.e. normal car driving) will melt (glaze) when used on the race track. This is known as "fade". Similarly, pads designed for racetrack use (high temperatures) won't grip as well in a daily driver because they aren't an the "normal" expected operating temperature.

The only real significant thing I've seen in pads over the years is "green stuff" pads, which, due the materials used, won't leave as much visible dust on your wheels. . Brake dust is really annoying for alloy wheel owners as it detracts from the appearence of the wheels, and in a worst case, can embed itself into the paint on the wheels.

"green stuff" pad sales, are usually oriented towards the higher end (and sports) car market.
