I have one of the LED lights from one of the web vendors (I think it was superbrightled.com or something like that). I bought a super bright red one that even had LEDs pointed out around the circumference. As there is no true white LED, I figured a red one in a red lense would be bright.

It is not as bright as a stock brake light. It is comparable to a driving light, maybe a little brighter, but not enough for me to spend the extra $$. So I used it in one of the driving lights and did not buy any more.

I will tell you that if you want to make your lights brighter, simply buy new bulbs - this really made my other lights bright - so bright that the turn signal lenses look transparent instead of orange.
